As a parent of two kids with dysautonomia, I had been to many doctors looking for answers and getting nowhere. My children and I were both amazed the first time we met Dr. Maxwell. He told me that children with involved parents tend to have better outcomes and then he turned to my children and talked directly to them. He did not dismiss anything they said and made every effort to ensure that they knew that he was listening to them and he would work hard to try to help them feel better. He did not promise a magical cure, he simply said that they would work together to hopefully getting them feeling well enough to lead the best possible lives for themselves. Yes there are lots of tests to look for underlying causes, but how wonderful to have a doctor that not only understands your child's condition, but truly cares for your child's health and quality of life. Have you ever known a doctor that encourages a parent or child to email him directly with questions or concerns? He even responded on a Saturday when my child was in the ER and called the ER department to ensure that she was being treated with the proper medication. If you are looking for a primary care coordinator for your child that stays up to date with all of the latest research and has a network of other specialists that treat dysautonomia patients, then Dr. Maxwell is the right fit for you and your child!

Dr. Maxwell, it means a lot to the parents as well! It is one of the things I remember most from the first day we met you! The nurse took Hannah out to pick a toy while I received what at the time was devastating news, though not nearly as devastating as it could have been! I appreciated more than you will ever know that she was with your nurse at that moment doing something special and fun and it gave me a few minutes to pull myself together. What an amazing doctor. I had the pleasure of working with Dr.Maxwell when I worked at St.Rose Hospital in the nursery.... he's an extremely caring doctor. Dr. Maxwell has been my sister's cardiologist for years, and I am a former patient as well.
